Who is Darius ?
In his mother's studio, where the most
beautiful tapestries in the world are made, in
daily contact with the works of the greatest artists
- Klee, Picasso, Chagall, Ernst, Matta ... he
devloped from childhood an overwhelming desire
to paint, a desire wich gradually gained direction.
Today he is imbued with a passion for painting.

Coming from Belgium, a country of great artistic
traditions, nourished by his family environment,
Darius chose his voice and his style very quickly.
Among his recent works, the large Bull-fighting
compositons evoke Picasso, of course, but his
gigantic figures frozen in their own silence refer
to the great classical period of Picasso in the
twenties.
His " corridas " are not bloody, so deep is this
silence as it is further emphasized by the paint's
absorbant thickness.
It is as if his compositons are suspended in
the time. The controlled force wich radiates from
his figures and their postures, thier monumentality
within the constrictions of the canvas, even in
small format, evoke sometimes the theatricality
of certain frescos of Diego Rivera or of Siqueiros.
But, unlike the works of these two great Mexican
masters, they are purified of all folklore. They
are not tied to any locality or to any period.
Their themes are as universal and timeless as
love.
Darius is indifferent to fashions, - free figuration,
trans-avant-garde and others. His message is
eternal for he speaks of romanticism, of lovers,
of work and life in the fields, of the world of
birds, of the game of love and death that is the
" corrida ". And even there, he transcends the
idea of the inevitability of death by infusing
his paintings with life, love and love of life.
He surrounds his figures and animals with mystery
in order to emphasize this classicism, in order
to set them off from us in space and time. But
also in order to protect them, for is clear that
he loves them . They are not elements of a compostition,
but exist in their own right like his friends
and members of his family. As such they have a
right to his protection and tenderness.
